Our Name

Court Lane Music is named after Court Lane, a road in the village of Dulwich, in South London (UK), where Simon and Thomas were born. Dulwich is an extraordinary place: because of enormously strict regulations dating back to the 1600s, the whole area is unblighted by modern architectural developments, and retains an air of tradition and serenity.

Yet within these constraints, modern-day developments have found a way to thrive in perfect harmony. A centuries-old burial ground nestles snugly next to a pub and the village school; beside the local bookshop lies a set of stocks, where criminals used to be pelted with rotten fruit and veg. Most importantly however, the designer boutiques and upmarket restaurants which have begun to re-define the area have all been kept in check by their beautiful surroundings.

This is a place where innovation is based upon a solid framework of tradition, and only branches outside when it is proven that the new way is the better way.
