. . . . . . . . . . An online resource by Imogen Holst scholar Christopher Tinker in association with Court Lane Music

The new book about Imogen Holst, 'A Life In Music', edited by Christopher Grogan, is now available!

Imogen Holst: 'A Life In Music' gives a full assessment of Imogen Holst's life and achievements, both in her own words and through the analysis of noted scholars. Throughout her life, 'Imo', as she was known, kept a colourful record of her achievements and these form the backbone of the volume, ranging from insightful essays on a variety of musical topics to the daily journal that she kept between 1952 and 1954 at the start of her working association with Britten. The 'Britten' journals also provides a unique insight into the professional and domestic life of a major composer, now published in full for the first time.

Around these writings is woven a biographical narrative by Rosamund Strode, Holst's successor as Britten's music assistant and one of her closest colleagues and friends. The volume also includes an essay on her musical style and a complete catalogue of her works by Christopher Tinker.

We'll soon have copies available to buy directly from this page, but in the meantime you can order directly from the publisher, Boydell & Brewer.
